How to use this calculator

Select your electric vehicle and we use its official kWh/100 efficiency. Enter your electricity rate (from your utility bill) and how far you drive on a typical day. The calculator shows your daily, monthly and yearly charging cost, the cost per kilometre or mile, and the cost of a full charge.

Charging overnight on a time-of-use or off-peak rate is usually the cheapest option — enter that rate to see your lowest cost.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to charge an electric car at home?
Multiply the energy your car uses by your electricity rate. For example, a car that uses 18 kWh/100km driving 50 km a day uses about 9 kWh, so at $0.16/kWh that day costs roughly $1.44. Select your EV and enter your rate above for an exact figure.
How do I find my electricity rate?
Look at your utility bill for the price per kilowatt-hour (kWh). Many areas have time-of-use pricing, so overnight charging is often cheaper. Enter your off-peak rate to see the lowest charging cost.
Is charging an EV cheaper than buying gas?
Almost always, especially when charging at home overnight. Electricity per 100 km typically costs a fraction of gasoline. Use this calculator for charging cost, then the Fuel Cost calculator for a comparable gas vehicle to compare.
