Privacy & Cookies

Last updated: May 2026. This notice explains what data HandyCarTools handles and your choices, in line with Quebec’s Law 25 and similar privacy laws.

The short version

HandyCarTools runs entirely in your browser. There is no account, no login, and no server that stores your information. The vehicles you save and the fuel and maintenance logs you keep are stored locally on your own device and are never uploaded to us.

Data we store on your device

  • Your selected vehicle(s) and their specifications.
  • Your fuel log and maintenance log entries.
  • Your preferences (country/units, dark mode) and your cookie choice.

This is kept in your browser’s local storage (IndexedDB / localStorage). It stays on your device, you can export or delete it at any time from My Garage, and clearing your browser data removes it.

Cookies and consent

We separate cookies and similar technologies into two kinds:

  • Strictly necessary — the local storage that makes the tools work (saving your vehicle, logs and preferences). These are always on because the site cannot function without them, and they involve no tracking.
  • Advertising — to keep HandyCarTools free we may show ads (Google AdSense), which can set cookies to measure and personalise advertising. These are off by default and load only after you choose “Accept”.

Until you consent, advertising and analytics storage are denied. Declining keeps them off — you can use every tool either way. You can change your choice at any time:

Affiliate links

Some links to retailers are affiliate links: if you buy through them we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Following a link takes you to that retailer, where their own privacy policy applies.

Vehicle data

Fuel-economy specifications come from public-domain government datasets — the U.S. EPA / DOE (FuelEconomy.gov) and Natural Resources Canada (Open Government Licence – Canada). This data is provided as-is for informational purposes only.

Your rights

Because we don’t collect or hold your personal information on any server, there is no account to access, correct, or delete on our side — your data lives with you. For questions about this notice, contact us at [email protected].
